National corn crop rating was left unchanged this week at 62% good/excellent. Corn doughing was pegged at 76% and denting was 29%, both behind their five year averages.
National soybean rating was up one point on the week at 60% g/e. Soybeans blooming was 97% complete and 87% of the crop is setting pods.
The spring wheat crop is 58% harvested, seven points ahead of the average.
The Pro Farmer Crop Tour gets underway this week. Yesterday, the Tour estimated Ohio’s corn yield at 164.6 bushels per acre, compared to 149.0 last year. They also pegged the soybeans pod counts at 1,107, up from last year’s figure of 1,055. Pro Farmer’s final yield estimate for corn and beans has been smaller than the USDA’s for the last five years.
