“Farming is in my blood, there is nothing more rewarding,” said Wes Brinker, a 23 year-old, 6th generation farmer who currently farms 200 acres of corn and soybeans throughout the Pemberville and Perrysburg area.
Wes’s father, Wynn Brinker, and his uncle, Kenny Brinker, both farm as well. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family and everything they have helped me with along the way,” Brinker said.
Brinker relies 100 percent on Luckey Farmers as his agricultural cooperative choice. He purchases all of his seed through Luckey Farmers and particularly enjoys planting Gro-Mor’s soybean varieties in his fields. He also utilizes Luckey Farmers custom application, grid-sampling, and grain marketing services.
“After Luckey began grid-sampling my fields, I saw yields increase and my input costs decrease,” Brinker said. “My fields really came together”.
Brinker enjoys working alongside Luckey Farmers Agronomist Josh Kieffer. “Josh is always on-top of new ideas for me to try in my fields,” Brinker said. “The guys at Sugar Ridge are just a great group of people. Everyone knows who you are”.
“My family and I have always been passionate about land and water conservation,” Brinker said. He is very mindful of fertilizer application processes and takes advantage of Luckey Farmers GPS technology and services. He uses filter strips to help protect the environment and improve farming practices. Brinker also took part in a Maumee River Watershed conservation survey with The Ohio State University.
Along with farming, Brinker operates his own welding business in which he performs industrial, commercial, and agricultural jobs across northwest Ohio. He crafted his welding skills at the Hobart Institute of Welding and spent a year on the road working throughout the U.S. on crude oil refinery tanks.
“My long-term goal is to farm full-time,” Brinker said. As a young farmer, he hopes that younger generations will also continue to stay close to their roots.
“Farming has it challenges, but I love every minute of it.”
